Obedience, in human behavior, is a form of “social influence in which a person yields to explicit instructions or orders from an authority figure”- Wikipedia. Obedience will help us to go far in life and obedience is also essential in order to follow Christ closely. If Peter had followed his instinct and said “NO” because he was tired and more so after his failure to catch any fish throughout the night, he would not have caught the 153 fishes nor would he have experienced that miracle or enjoyed the closeness that made Jesus to make him the leader of his Church.
Often times, we are ambushed by the fatigue that comes from not seeing positive progress from the efforts we put into our career or in our apostolate drive and that tends to make us want to give up, we should like Peter hear the voice of Jesus saying to us “put out into the deep sea”, and begin again and learn from our failure.
In the Gospel of Luke, chapter 5:1-11, we read that when Jesus had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets” And when he did so, him and his team caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. Remember that Peter was a professional fisherman but he obeyed Jesus because he was humble not because he knew he was going to catch any fish. Hence, we need humility to be Obedient because Obedience strengthens us and makes us to be faithful.
