Our society today does not value human life anymore. Those in authority seem to enjoy seeing their followers suffer in hunger. Those who ordinarily should be helped and protected, now suffer in the hands of those who are supposed to protect them. People are dying like chickens, bodies are found lying on the streets and nobody is doing anything about it. Do we still have any iota of respect for human life? Human life is precious, spiritual, sacred, priceless and unbreakable yet we play with it as if it belongs to us.
We should do everything possible to protect, save and heal broken lives just like Jesus did and still does. When God presents you with an opportunity to save a life, do not hesitate no matter the circumstance. Do not allow hospital policy as regards monetary deposits or Police reports to stop you from saving a life. Remember how Jesus healed the woman who for 18 years was held bound by a demon and thus made crippled, bent down double and unable to stand. Despite, the protest from the Pharisees because it was Sabbath, Jesus healed her because He has love and value for human life. Note that the woman in question only attended the synagogue service, she did not ask Jesus for healing but luck shined on her and Jesus noticed her condition.
Just like the woman, many today need our helping hands, encouraging words and saving touch. So, if you are a leader, always remember that there are people who are under your care. Be like Jesus who could not see people suffer or in a critical condition and did nothing. We should have human sympathy and not be the hypocrite who would go the extra mile to save his dog from a borehole on a Sabbath day and complain about someone being healed on a Sabbath. This is a call to value human life more than anything we have or want to be. If Jesus could not withstand the presence of someone who was in such a precarious situation, why will any Christian be happy that someone under his/ her care is overburdened with challenges and difficult situations.? How can a good leader allow his/ her subjects to suffer in hunger and yet call himself/ herself a child of God?
God shows huge concern for the marginalized, widows and orphans out of love so, if we have value for human life, we will protect and support those who are marginalized and vulnerable in society. We should lend to those in need without seeking excessive interest or exploiting their situations. We have to help others genuinely and not use their needs to manipulate and achieve our selfish desires. Remember that every position we occupy today is given to us out of God’s love.
Today, people are oppressed by hunger and hardship, imagine what will happen if we oppress them the more. Always remember that it is God that we oppress. Acts 9: 4 – “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me”.” Jesus did not say, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting them” Jesus always defended the oppressed and so should we. When you look at what is happening in the country today, you begin to wonder if people have a conscience anymore. You are forced to ask why people who are supposed to protect lives are now the ones snatching lives out from the people.
Do you think that God will be clapping His hands for us when we oppress the poor, the needy and the people we are better than? Of course not. In Matthew 25: 40, Jesus says” Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers that, you do unto Me”. Just that you know, you are also hurting God. Everything we do today will always be there to stand for or against us on the last day. Take this also to be a wake-up call to all who go about looting and stealing/taking other people’s properties or abusing their power, the reward is certainly waiting for you.
Choose the path of righteousness, where compassion, fairness and love reign supreme. Become a beacon of light in a world that is drowning in darkness because the battle against wickedness begins with each one of us. When we look at the life of Jesus, we will see the close relationship He has with His Father. He humbled himself to do the will of God. Let us take a cue from there and establish good relationships with those that we lead or are placed under our care.
